Belapu to get Singapore model circles, bus shelter

"We have conceptualized to transform Belapu into a 'smart village' on the lines of 'smart city' project. To support this concept, all roads connecting Belapu have been widened and developed. State of the art science research centre costing Rs 400 crore, setting up of government polytechnic by spending ten crore rupees, and primary and English medium high school, are aimed at making this village an educational hub. A small scale industries park is being set up in 68 acres land for employment and industry to brighten the future of young people. Development Konkan railway station near here, construction of rural stadium, government quarters extension like in the city, schemes meant for economic empowerment, and banking system have been put in place. Ancient ponds and Hindu graveyard have been developed, and funds have been provided for development projects pertaining to all the communities here," Deviprasad Shetty explained.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the progress of works on Friday, the minister said that the main bus stop will be built at Bannanje and will be constructed at the cost of Rs 31.34 crore. The sophisticated bus stop will accommodate two-floor commercial complexes. Udupi KSRTC depot would also be renovated and concreted at the cost of Rs 1 crore. The city service bus stop (JNNURM bus stop) will be built at the cost of Rs 4 crore.

The NH officials also said that Rs 78.5 crore was released for 12 construction works in Udupi and another Rs 113 crore for Chikkamgaluru district. They added that in Parkala, the land acquisition process has been started and is likely to end in May. The national highway also will be widened in Parkala, the officials added. Elaborating, the officials said Rs 18 crore was spent on a bridge at Perdur in Karkala, Rs 68 crore on road construction works, while another Rs 7.5 crore was spent in Mala.
