The only thing about which you are remotely correct is the fact that, for the most part, passengers who utilize this bridge aren't downtown commuters. This is primarily a conduit for residents of Bergen, Rockland, Fairfield, Westchester and Bronx counties. The new bridge isn't promoting sprawl. Sprawl has happened. The new bridge is being built because the old one is extraordinarily unsafe, and those 4.6 million people need to stay connected.

But you're right, make 'em swim!
