I may have been in that very house when I was in grade school - one of my classmates lived in one of the stone houses, but my memory of which particular one challenges me. I remember that the garage or carriage house was also stone, which makes me think this may be the one. I recall that there was a hand-carved mantle on one of the fireplaces that read "EAST WEST HAME'S BEST" which I thought was interesting and impressed me at the time. After visiting that house, I have always kept an interest in other stone houses.
This week I took a few pictures of interesting stone houses in the Deerhurst Park neighborhood of Tonawanda, a little north of the Buffalo city limits. Most of these date from the 1920s and later. They are near the end of my Tonawanda album. After I get a few more pictures from Tonawanda I am satisfied with I may post some here in the forum.
