Downtown Hampton Inn & Suites:
This hotel is now scheduled to open in September.
Courtyard by Marriott - Downtown:
Private equity firm Virtua Partners, in Arizona, has purchased this hotel with restaurant and rooftop bar. The developer will use the money to invest in more developments around Fourth and Broad streets, where they have assembled sites for residential, retail, and office development.

8 West Third Street:
The office space in this project is roughly 85% leased. There are a few small spaces available on the second and third floors. This project should start construction soon!
500 West 5th:
The North Carolina Center for Cybersecurity has signed a lease to move their headquarters to this building. They work to position North Carolina as a leader in cybersecurity workforce development to help existing businesses meet the global demand for a more secure supply chain. This headquarters is expected to bring new cybersecurity startups to downtown Winston-Salem.
Work has started on the sixth floor, which will become a conference center with catering and meeting facilities for groups of up to 150 people. The conference center could open early next year. The building's office space should be 100% full, with all tenants and their employees moved-in, by June 2020. A restaurant space is still available on the ground floor, if you're interested. They are now planning a new construction office, residential, and retail building on a neighboring site.

New Jobs - ESPN ACC Network:
A new ESPN studio was completed in Winston-Salem. It will have around 31 employees making video sports programing.
Salem Parkway:
Main Street is now connected to Salem Parkway. They are currently having issues with rocks (blasting volcanic rock). Salem Parkway will be below ground-level through downtown.

300 MLK Apartments & Retail:
The former Smith Dry Cleaners site, on Third Street, is under contract to a developer for an apartment and retail project. The building will have three floors at the prominent East End Neighborhood intersection (Third & MLK). The developer said the project will have 11,000 square feet of retail space. It should also have a nice skyline view from the apartments.

The City of WS doesn't really want the proposed park space because of the costs associated with it. The developer added a path across the property to address concerns of bicyclists who use the current Brookstown cut-through. The name 'The Easley' is derived from a historical WS business called the Easley Cookie Company...started in the 20's and eventually became the Royal Cake Co. They were the originator of the oatmeal creme pie. Also, there are concerns about the visual appeal of the parking deck connected to the apartments. Those will evidently be addressed before final plans are submitted.

WFBH Eye Institute:
The newest proposal for downtown Winston-Salem's IQ District is the WFBH Eye Institute. The current Eye Center has outgrown its existing space, and an increasing patient load requires more room and a state-of-the-art clinical and teaching facility for the university. Yes, this will bring more Wake Forest University students to downtown. It will also bring around 75,000 eye patients from Northwest North Carolina and Southwest Virginia to downtown Winston-Salem's IQ District. "Our goal is to establish a new world-class clinical and educational Eye Institute for our region. In this state-of-the-art facility, faculty and staff will have the space necessary to treat an ever-increasing patient base as the incidence of vision-threatening eye disease continues to grow." Our first look inside, at the city's Traffic Control Center! "Union Station will be the new home of our computerized traffic signal control center. More than 300 signals citywide will be monitored from this area." This project should be completed in our next update. The grand opening is this weekend.
