The sky is not falling. That is true. That was never my point. My point was that 8% is high. If you operate at a 30% margin (as an arbitrary baseline figure), there is not tons of wiggle room. The goal should never be to drive business costs up and trumpet cabin country, an NHL team and a fancy museum. The goal should always be to drive business costs down. Many businesses in Manitoba/Winnipeg do not have the ability to up and leave as you suggest. Sure, some do, but others are here for strategic reasons - mom and pops especially. I would hope that as a population, we would be supportive of making those firms more competitive, not less competitive.
