TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Without warning, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport suddenly lost power twice this morning, trapping two passengers in terminal elevators.

At 9:26 a.m. this morning, the power suddenly went out in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, but the power was quickly restored. However, at 9:38 a.m., the two terminals went black again, trapping two passengers in separate elevators.

One passenger was trapped in an elevator in the south section of Terminal 1 and another passenger in an elevator in Terminal 2, reported TVBS. Both passengers have since been able to exit the elevators and are unharmed.

Some flights were delayed due to this morning's blackouts. Taiwanese movie star Brigitte Lin (林青霞) happened to be preparing to board Cathay Pacific Flight CX469 to Hong Kong when the second blackout struck, resulting an a 50-minute delay.

The Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) said that at 9:26 a.m. this morning, a high voltage circuit breaker was tripped in a 161KV transformer causing it to shut down, leading to sudden loss of power in the two terminals. The airport's emergency generator was then activated and started supplying power within three minutes.

The airport's facilities and equipment were soon restored to normal and passengers resumed boarding. The transformer was expected to return to normal within 40 minutes.

Minister of Transportation and Communications Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) ordered that an investigation be carried out into the cause of the outage and steps be taken to avoid a recurrence of the problem.
