Solar power is a fools game in BC on any large scale.
Most of the province receives far too little useful sunshine to pay back the environmental cost of building, maintaining and recycling the panels themselves.
In the few areas that do, land prices are extremely high and they also happen to be the locations of our most endangered ecosystems. I don’t want to see swaths of the grasslands and scrublands in the Okanagan, Thompson, Nicola Valleys or Fraser Canyon plowed over for barely net positive power generation. Too many endangered species already feeling they pinch from urban sprawl and agriculture.
These same issues also make any new major dam construction in southern BC a no go. Any such dam projects would need to be in the northern half of the province.
