Wow, I'm surprised you didn't know that The Lord Stanley of Preston didn't like fish. And he was a Conservative politician, not a planner.

Actually, he had nothing to do with creating the park. It was leased to the City by the UK Government in June 1886, and was known then as 'the miltary reserve'. He didn't become Governor General of Canada until 1888.
