Redlands is indeed a gem in the IE. It's been quite a few years since I was last there; my sister's husband grew up there (they met at UCLA), but by the time they started dating, his parents had already moved to northern California, so I didn't go to Redlands until many years after he had already married my sister.
The downtown is cute, and yes, the historic residential neighborhoods with the Victorians are really very interesting, some very unique Victorian architecture.
I was also curious about that new Metrolink extension to Redlands, when I first read about it last year. I guess I can look into it, but I was wondering why they used a different kind of train for the extension vs. just extending the regular Metrolink service into Redlands.
