ಬಸ್ರೂರು ನೀರು ಟ್ಯಾಂಕ್ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಗುಂಡಿಗೋಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೂರು ಮೀ.ನಷ್ಟು ಮೇಲೆ ಸಾಗಿದರೆ ಎಡಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾಣುವ ತಿರುವಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ನೂತನ ಮಾರ್ಗ 12ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಇತಿಹಾಸವುಳ್ಳ ಶಿಥಿಲಾವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಸದಾನಂದ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ದೇಗುಲದ ಬಲಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಸ್ರೂರಿನ ಅಂದಿನ ಕೋಟೆಯಿತ್ತೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾದರೂ ಅದರ ಅವಶೇಷಗಳು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಸದ್ಯ ದೇಗುಲ ಇರುವ ಪ್ರದೇಶ ರಾಜ್ಯ ಪುರಾತತ್ವ ಇಲಾಖೆಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಶೋಧನೆ ಅಗತ್ಯ

ಸದಾನಂದ ದೇಗುಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸುರಂಗವಿದ್ದು ಈ ಸುರಂಗಕ್ಕೂ ಬಸ್ರೂರಿನ ಕೋಟೆಗೂ ಹತ್ತಿರದ ಸಂಬಂಧವಿದೆ. ಈ ಸುರಂಗದ ಒಳಗೆ ಹೋದರೆ ಕೋಟೆಯ ಒಳಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮಾತುಗಳೂ. ಇವೆ. ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟು ಅಧ್ಯಯನ, ಶೋಧನೆ ಅಗತ್ಯವಿದೆ.

ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರಕಾರವು 2.5 ಕೋಟಿ ರೂ. ವ್ಯಯಿಸಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಲ ಸೌಕರ್ಯ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿ ನಡೆಸಿದೆ. ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕ ಶೌಚಗೃಹ, ಸ್ನಾನ ಗೃಹ, ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಬದಲಾಯಿಸುವ ಕೋಣೆ, ನೀರು ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣ ಘಟಕ, ಕುಡಿಯುವ ನೀರಿನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ, ಸಿಸಿ ಕೆಮರಾ ಹಾಗೂ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣ ಕೊಠಡಿ, ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಆಟಿಕೆ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳು, ಪ್ರಥಮ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸಾ ಕೊಠಡಿ, ಘನತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕರಣೆ ಘಟಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೋಲಾರ್ ದೀಪಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಕಾಲು ದಾರಿಗಳು, ವಾಹನ ನಿಲುಗಡೆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಂಟರ್ಲಾಕ್, ಹಸಿರು ಹುಲ್ಲು ಹಾಸುವಿಕೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಫಲಕ ಅಳವಡಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಪ್ರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ನೀರಿನ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಬಿದಿರಿನ ಆಸನಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸುವ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಬಾಕಿಯಿದೆ.

Padubidri Beach undergoes sea change to secure intl eco tag

In order to secure the coveted certification, the beach was developed based on the cleanliness, environment protection and water quality criteria.

At Padubidri Beach, boards display information about the Blue Flag programme, bathing water quality, a map of the beach indicating different facilities, laws governing the use of the beach and surrounding areas.

Importance of the Blue Flag programme The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)-an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation based in Copenhagen, runs the ‘Blue Flag’ programme for beaches and marinas.

The certification is awarded by the Denmark-based agency based on 33 stringent criteria in four major heads that is environmental education and information, bathing water quality, environment management and conservation and safety and services in the beaches.

Kasarkod and Padubidri beaches have grey water treatment plants, solid waste management plants, disabled-friendly equipment to enable them to enter seawater, seating arrangements, clean drinking water, washroom, changing room, bathing facility, disabled-friendly and general toilets, parking facilities, solar power plant, solar lighting, and the like.

In major boost, Padubidri beach gets international Blue Flag recognition

The major aim of the tourist department at Blue Flag beaches is to slowly develop home stays, tourist guides, taxi services etc towards improving foreign exchange inflow into the country.

Udupi district assistant director for tourism, Chandrashehar Nayak, said that Blue Flag hoisting was undertaken in all the eight beaches mentioned above and that his department has sent proposals seeking grant of Rs 5.91 crore to the state government. He said that an isle located nearby will be developed and road and parking facilities are yet to be fully developed.

So, next focus should be isle and marina development at Padubidri. And Kapu should also be developed as blue flag beach with further development as film city in mind. Of course, the ambitious plan of getting blue flag certification for all beaches in the district has to be pursued eagerly.

At Padubidri beach, the locals opposed any sort of development, who feared that international certification would attract foreign tourists and affect their lifestyle. So, another spot at Narsal, where River Kamini — after meandering through the Mangrove islands — joins the Arabian sea, was identified. A year ago, after a cyclone-triggered sea erosion washed away interlock bricks and some structures, another 480 metres along the beach was identified as a ‘Safe Bathing Zone’.

The beach also has watchtowers rising upto a height up to 113 meters, which are staffed by three trained lifeguards. "Soon we will install nets, procured from Goa, in the water to physically prevent tourists from venturing deep into the sea," says Padubidri beach manager Vijay Shetty.

Both Kasarakod and Padubidri beaches now have as many as 32 facilities, including children's play area, hammocks, recliners with sit-out umbrellas among other amenities.

Besides being disabled-friendly with ramps and toilets, both beaches also have an amphibious chair to help differently-abled children frolic in the waves.

The beaches have also installed solar panels and a grey water treatment plant; in all these locations have seen an investment of Rs 7 - 10 crore, including the payment of staff salaries.

Five more beaches from state for Blue Flag certification

Kundapur Kody in Udupi district, Murudeshwar in Uttara Kannada and Karwar are the three other beaches chosen for the second phase Blue Flag certifications.

Waterway tourism likely to flourish with approval of Sagar Mala project in Udupi

A blueprint is getting ready to develop the water transport from Hangarakatte to Manipal under the Sagar Mala project of the union government. Under this project, a system will be developed to make boats move smoothly from Bengre, Kemmanu, and Kallianpur through Hangarakatte estuarine till Manipal. Only one or two boat houses are running at present in the Bengre and Kemmanu areas. Silt removal will be done as part of the first phase improvement programme under the Sagar Mala project.

As the Hangarakatte-Manipal waterway mostly passes through Swarna river, boats can arrive from Hangarakatte to Kallianpur via Bengre and Kemmanu. However, movement from Kallianpur to Manipal will be slightly difficult as a vented dam is built at Kallianpur.

The vented dam of Kallianpur might be a hurdle in the full fledged development of the water route from Hangarakatte to Manipal. So during the first phase the development will be done from Hangarakatte to Kallianpur vented dam.

Provision will also be made for boats to anchor them at specific points. In future, after the waterway is completely developed, fishing boats and commercial boats will also be allowed.

Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, who had been to Delhi recently, had reportedly discussed the development of Hangarakatte-Manipal waterway. So a tentative approval has been given for the same. In the first phase, Rs 25 crore worth of work will be taken up.
