The problem with suggestions that you demo both the arena and the old WTCC site is that the latter is privately owned. As I noted in a previous post, HRM had the chance to acquire it a few years ago and said no. HRM or the province would need to expropriate it.

If you look at overhead pics of the arena it is a very tight fit between Duke and Carmichael Sts. Assuming the WTCC building is untouchable because it is privately owned, I think the only way to expand on the existing arena site is to spill it over onto those two streets and Brunswick somehow. That might not be impossible.
