^Was in France last week and rented a diesel vehicle (fuel efficiency is godly btw). Diesel was around 2 Euros ($2.70)/litre and slightly more expensive than gasoline.
BUT, Oh god the refinery strikes! Gas shortages all over France. Over half the stations we'd drive by would be completely empty and closed. When we finally did find a gas station that had supply we had to line up 1/2 hour for our first fill up and over an hour to fill it up again before returning the car. People were selling gasoline out of jerry cans. Felt like I was living in 1973! Good thing we did it the night before otherwise I think we might have missed our flight!
