The developer, Everest, are from Alberta, and have developed several projects in the past 20 years. They seem to have US and Canadian schemes, so may have over-reached just as covid and rising interest rates have hit several development companies. They must have pre-sold enough to start construction, as they'll be almost certainly be relying on bank financing like almost every other developer, so Rennie's work was done before construction started.

The warning about their website is because the security certificate has lapsed - you would have seen the same message on this website three days ago! It may mean nothing, and certainly doesn't mean they're amateurs or 'crooks'.
