In some recent research I’ve been preparing for publication, homes in richer neighbourhoods would be reclad in stucco or aluminium while poorer census tracts were dominated by new vinyl siding. While it may be damaging to the heritage elements for many it’s very practical. I must say that poorly done stucco can ruin the authenticity of a nice brick building as much as any vinyl, but is somehow tolerable due to being a traditional technique.
