This should be causing some alarm. The article also includes a map for a one-in-100 year flooding event. The town is also at risk if the dyke currently protecting the CNR mainline and TCH crossing the Tantramar Marsh should ever fail. It should be remembered that this dyke is old and was very nearly overtopped by a storm several years ago.
With sea level rise, a major flooding event is inevitable. The feds and the provinces of NB and NS should be addressing this now........
BTW, with the loss of the Sackville Tribune Post, I find this website (warktimes) is probably the best source of local news content for the Sackville/Tantramar area. I recommend it.  |
If those dykes along the TCH ever failed, transportation into and out of NS would be severely compromised. I agree that levels of government need to address this right now.
