What will be interesting about Austin's skyline relative to the rest of the country is how modern it will be. Most US skylines are characterized by the skyscraper building boom of the late 60s-early 90s, which gave us a lot of blocky office towers clad in muted colors or earth tones and dark glass.

Austin meanwhile is going to be characterized almost entirely by 21st century structures: glassier, more playful, less corporate. Not only have architectural trends changed, but so have urban tastes: more residential / mixed use towers, a greater focus on incorporating outdoor amenities into the design. In particular the mixed-use stacking you see in this structure, 6xG, and 99 RR is creating an interesting tiered form that will shape the skyline. When all of this construction is through, we may not have the biggest skyline, but we will definitely be one of the most unique in the country.
