All to say, I bike instead because it's 18 minutes for me on a bike to his house.

Yea, Two waying main on the west end of downtown needs some interchange work with the 403 which is the main issue.
The City really needs to think holistically on what traffic patterns should be post-LRT, probably should initiate a full EA for it. It would likely be too political though so of course it won't happen.
