Actually concerning Canadian men's soccer we don't have a large base at all. And if the games aren't outsourced to a national broadcaster it won't get much better. Seeing as I have been following this team for damn near 50 years, I remain the eternal optimist that things will take a turn as far as getting some more exposure.
