Guddamn you're my hero right now! Prioritize PEOPLE over all other things. People are what matter. People create culture. People create vibrancy. Do nice historic buildings help? Absolutely, but people are ultimately what create the neighborhoods many of us love. We need more people of different kinds living in our City, not just reech white folk and the pre-existng folks being displaced. There is room for everyone, just not under current standards/thinking. Cities need to do away with all their standards, all their zoning and just let the market take a shot at sorting it out. I know many folks are terrified by that notion, but most of the neighborhoods we love the most were developed just like that, without any help/determination of a street width or the number of parking spaces from a static municipal bureaucracy.
