Home building giant Toll Brothers wants to build hundreds of luxury apartments and townhomes near the Edgewood-Candler MARTA station as it continues its expansion into the Atlanta market.
Pennsylvania-based Toll Brothers filed a Development of Regional Impact, or DRI, on Jan. 11 with the state department of Community Affairs for its "Project Tulip" to be built at 285 Mayson Ave., south of DeKalb Avenue. The project would include approximately 450 apartments; 275 townhomes and condominiums; and 10,000 square feet of retail space. It would be adjacent to the Edgewood-Candler transit-oriented development now under construction, a multi-phase project with more than 400 apartments, including more than 50 set aside as affordable housing; a performing arts centers; and commercial and office space.
The 11-acre industrial site on Mayson Avenue is owned by Edward Fine Foods, renowned for its pies, and valued at $4.6 million, according to online DeKalb County property records. "The fact that the site is immediately adjacent to the Candler Park MARTA station is very significant to us – as it will be to our future residents and homeowners," he said.
