Why do office levels have a higher ceiling than residential floors? It seems to me that the opposite would be true since people enjoy higher ceiling in their home while offices are more utilitarian.

Office buildings usually have more requirements regarding a/c ducts, plumbing and wiring above the ceiling which adds a foot or two to each level. At least that what my friend told me. He did the plumbing work on the Colorado Tower. .
