That's one of those funny angles where the skyline doesn't look as tall as it actually is. There're actually several of those throughout the city (IMO) where you get a nice pano of DT, but the buildings just don't look as large as they actually are. It's weird. Maybe a trick of the light? Or the downtown grid is in a bit of a valley in comparison to the surrounding areas?

That's definitely the case approaching downtown on 35 (upper deck in particular). There are many angles from the north that are underwhelming. Topography definitely plays a part in that... a very gradual rise in elevation as you head north.
