The Steve Allen Playhouse was initially the La Mirada Theater (located on the southeast corner of Vine St. & La Mirada) and for many years it was known as the
Filmarte Theater. (shown below on the right)

The famous Hollywood Ranch Market was next door
(to the north / across La Mirada) so Steve Allen would often do skits at the market. (or, as you can see, in front of the market)
