Another example would be someone living in remote far north Manitoba. That's way more "The North" than "The Prairies".

Most of Manitoba isn't the Prairies, not just the far north. I would think that the Canadian Shield is by far the largest region, followed by what we'd generally call the Prairies (which could be subdivided into several regions) and then by the Hudson's Bay Lowlands.
