Day Dreamers Lament Lengthy Timeline For Plaza Of Nations’ “Non-Approval Process”
750 Pacific Boulevard – DP-2019-00571
To say the proposed redevelopment of the Plaza of Nations has endured a lot would be an understatement. It has been almost 3 years since the first draft of the North East False Creek plan was presented at a block party on Carrall Street that was so windy, the information boards resembled dominoes. In the following years the project has survived one lawsuit, an open house that drew ~160 people, and a public hearing were it was approved by city council.
Since then, community interest has begun to wane, but it remains strong enough that 30 people still came out to an open house in January, even after it was cancelled by the city due to snowy weather. Fortunately, the applicant team braved the weather that night, but neither Darren nor I did. In fact, this was the first time either of us has been in the Harbour Event Centre, a venue who’s entryway easily accommodated the night’s roughly 100 attendees.
