This is really a shi**y development.
The buildings razed were nice. They contributed to whatever touch of class 57th Street still has, gave it some actual pedigree and heritage as opposed to yet another awkward glass wall.
What Solow did on the other side of the street, next to his asinine 9W57 building, is criminal. He knocked down great heritage buildings for ill-fitting pizza-box architecture.
The smart money says this is equally pointless: a cheaply built glass/pre-fab mid-rise, or maybe it'll just be vacant for decades before the old gizzard croaks, like what he's doing to 5 or so blocks on the East River (thanks, Shelly! you're a real hero for New York's kids).
