For the whole blackmailed into using Presto thing, I believe it was tied to the gas tax or funding for Stage 1, or both. Why Kitchener-Waterloo weren't forced as well, I don't know, but I feel they would have benefited much more than us considering their proximity to Toronto (and yes, TO was years away from adopting Presto themselves) and the fact that they have GO service.
For our new O-Train street signs pointing to stations, I too prefer the one on the corner of Elgin and Laurier with the walker and train pictographs; the idea is to point people towards rapid transit. Who cares what station? The line colour could be more useful and/or an estimated distance or walk time.
And the one on Holland, I also find strange it's right in front of the flag poll.
The swoosh should have been dumped as soon as the branding was changed to the "O". If it's just a decal, it wouldn't be that hard to remove. If not, don't paint it on new vehicles.
As for the Toronto signs, the first one is probably the best. The second one is also pretty good. The third one doesn't stand out as much and could be mistaken for a sign pointing to a Subway restaurant.
I assume they're shifting to "Rapid Transit" because the new Eglinton Crosstown doesn't completely fit the definition of "Subway". Neither does the Scarborough RT, but that's a whole other story.
