Well that's just idiotic. A 30 cent change in gas prices is about a 15 dollar increase for a 50l tank. How is $15 worth robbing someone with a risk of blowing yourself up?

Same reason people strip copper wire even though they risk electrocuting themselves and copper wire is cheap.
Money is money at the end of the day and people have different concepts of what's worth their time/risk.
