Yea, it seems like they liked Wilson mainly because they feel a personal connection to him, and he's one of their own people. They get him, and they they don't get Lightfoot. She grew up in small town in Ohio that's mostly white. She might as well be a white liberal lady from Wisconsin to them. Lightfoot didn't even visit the southside much, she courted the bleeding heart northside liberal, and was successful. Most of the liberals I know would have voted for her because she is a female, minority lesbian. To bad she's not also a disabled veteran too. Then she would have every protected group covered. They feel like they're doing their part for social justice. And it didn't seem to have anything to do with Wilson's conservative politics from what the article says.
She likes Preckwickle since she might "provide resources to the community". Aka liberal government money for schools, community centers, basketball hoops ect. Nothing conservative about that.
