What we're getting is a new state-of-the-art headquarters for a major company that will remain in Midtown east, which is exactly what the city hoped for when the rezoning was approved. Whether or not anyone approves of the design is irrelevant. Besides, it's not as if the current tower is something great. I say again, New York, and midtown itself, is not some open museum for us to look at. It's a functioning city. The buildings have function. The current building doesn't serve Chase's needs, so they will replace it with one that does. The current tower also replaced a building that was there before.
