I'm gonna say something dirty: The province should up the speed limit but also up the speeding fines even more.
Assuming it gets a portion of traffic fines, OPP should enforce some rules more vigorously, i.e. move-over for emergency vehicles, no camping in the left lane (on freeways), no distracted driving (not just cellphone use but also not paying attention to roads), and actually start ticketing people at 21 kph over or 16 kph below the speed limit.
Meanwhile, with higher speed comes higher fuel consumption, which means more money for the government either through carbon tax (if not axed) or income tax (from the convenient stores). |
I have always thought that they should simply stick a zero on the end of speeding fines under 50 over.
I am fan of higher speed limits to some degree. The 2 lanes should not be much higher than 90.
And I will always advocate that plan. Figure I will say it once per page.
