As mentioned in several of the articles, Homeaway already occupies a full building in the Domain - the 5-story, 124,000 square foot Domain 1, which I'm sure they will vacate. This is technically an expansion, albeit a big one.

Homeaway was one of the first large companies in Austin to embrace the multiple-location platform to benefit employees. They have offices at Penn Field on South Congress, Research Park Plaza on Hwy 183, Downtown at West Elm and of course their biggest location at Domain 1. They let their employees choose which office to work at in order to accommodate their commute. More big companies need to embrace that idea, especially in cities like Austin where traffic is such an issue.

Homeaway was a home-grown company, but now its just a subsidiary of Expedia. I don't blame founders for selling out for millions (or billions in Whole Foods' case) but the corporate culture always changes when a company becomes part of a conglomerate. Hopefully they will continue to keep their downtown location but over time big corporations creep toward consolidation as a matter of cost.
