L.A. Herald Express, Saturday, September 22, 1951, with the caption, "John Paine says he was raped 9 times." [not the actor]
This was while he was being held in the L.A County Jail on pending charges and investigation. He complained about being sexually harassed while in jail. He probably needed to be in protective custody.
