The different glass widths are purely aesthetic. The wide panes (2 per typical room) are what a guest will look out of from their room. The three narrow panes will be covered on the inside with a gypsum board assembly. It doesn't show well in these cloudy day images but the three narrow panes are 2 colors. The darker stripe of the colors changes location within the the groups of three. I believe Gensler was trying to break up what will be huge glass walls with a bit of interest and rhythm. It looked good on the drawings anyway.
