For those that don’t like, just use your imagination when it is built. From the street level, I guarantee you will be drawn to explore the design of this tower from every angle compared to the other towers in the site while looking up. The design is a draw imo, while not being iconic.
I think it would be cool looking up from the ground admiring the multiple cantilevers on the North and West side of the tower and the twisty setbacks on the west and South sides. Because there is no diamonds, this tower will appear much taller and on par to the height of tower 1 minus the spire.
Foster’s is basically a tall box (boring) with the diamonds (interesting) which you would appreciate more looking from the distance. I think… I would enjoy this tower more than Foster’s visiting the site.
Could BIG do better? Yes absolutely and hope for some adjustments but even if not it is more interesting. Maybe more interesting should be reserved for the Hudson Yards and not the WTC site, but BIG’s current design is more refreshing and I’m an advocate for change. Sometimes change is good and imo, the WTC could use a refreshing.
I would have preferred, Silverstein to have built 2 WTC first and screwed around with either tower 3 or 4 which I love if it meant saving Fosters tower but it is not the case and we have a major corporation that will be committing into the ever rebuilding WTC site and moving it a step closer to completion.
