They're going to have to use that land to expand the highway to 8 lanes in this area. Carling-Kent is already 8 lanes and Nicholas-174 will be 8 lanes very soon, so Kent-Nicholas is a bottleneck that the MTO is going to have to fix at some point. It's being held off for now due to the high costs of shoehorning into the area, which will inevitably involve some expropriation on the south side of Catherine.
