I know I'm responding to a two months old post but yes, the long term plan is to replace nearly all the parking in the central terminal area (CTA) with a new consolidated check-in facility that can be fully integrated with the APM stations.

But in LAWA's thinking, they need to first build redundant parking outside CTA before they can tear down the CTA parking.

The CTA check-in facility will be like TBIT now with lots of airlines sharing the same hall. You check in at the counter and then proceed to the TSA screening and gates via walkways to T4 for example. And this will allow American Airlines (again, just an example) to eliminate the ticketing and check-in area in T4 and add more amenities or retail space. So imagine T3 and T4 (again, just examples) as the north and south wings of the CTA check-in facility, and T2 and T5 as the other wings.
