If I'm not mistaken, this is looking north on Broadway from 6th. On the right we have the Los Angeles Examiner Building which was in the 500 s. block. Seems like the entire confusion may have come from this small detail:



Definitely looks like it says the word "Pasadena" on that sign.

We're looking south from about 450 S. Broadway. This building on the left is the Alhambra Block, on the NE corner of 5th and Broadway, with the California Savings Bank on the ground floor. They may have had a branch office in Pasadena, I guess. The Forve-Pettibone Co. was located at 510-514 S. Broadway (building is still there). In any event, the Examiner (in 1910) was at 509-511 S. Broadway putting them on the west side of the street. Likewise the Unique Theater, below 6th Street, on the west side of the street at about 631.
