The Spec editor posted an article today claiming they stand by their columnists and would never suppress their opinions.
So you mean to tell me if a columnist had the opinion that Hitler was a hero they wouldn't suppress it. Or if a firefighter died fighting a fire and a columnist wrote an article titled "the firefighter was not a hero" they wouldn't suppress it. Or Rob Ford is a hero for running a city while on crack. Give me a break.
They did this for controversy and publicity. That is why the editor signed off and approved it. It's no secret newspapers are hurting for subscriptions and advertising dollars. Funny thing is it has back fired because I know first hand of dozens of ppl who have cancelled their subscriptions to the spec because of this.
There's also an online petition to dismiss Dreschel which has amassed close to 2000 signatures.
Good riddance.
