Gateway is a lot cleaner than it was when I was growing up but does have a long way to go.

The biggest issues are reputation and facilities that pull in "undesirables". Reputation is tough and really requires time.

Facilities is something Surrey can deal with along with developers. Bosa purchased the Dell shopping mall and demolished the Dell which was home to undesirables. The Flamingo is still there but will be demod for Quatros next big project.

Those focal points both being gone will mean a certain clientel will start to disperse. Some social assistance places have also been moving to the hospital district so that too moves clientel out of there.

Unfortunately it just moves people and the biggest issue will be these types of people moving to other parts of Surrey or even metro Van. One city's problems suddenly become another city's problem.

That said, Gateway is definately on the right path development wise. I just fear the people in that area that truely need help will simply be moved somewhere else. Why the government felt it a good idea to close mental hospitals putting many of those patients on the streets into the hands of drug dealers and that fact each of us voting public gave then license to do that is still beyond me.

Thats a rant for a different topic though.

Dev wise, Gateway will get some love too it just has a few more hurtles to jump over than Surrey Central and KGB.
