10 years ago... it really does feel like it just happened.
The fall of that year my dad and I had a bit of an argument and he sorta kicked me out. I was 20 back then. We lived in Del Valle and I had not really explored much of Austin... didn't really know my way around so I took the car and drove around quite a bit. I parked on the drag and walked into the Dobie theater. It was when they had their late screenings... or at least that night they did. It was a Sunday night. One of those warms December days. I checked out "The Machinist" with Christian Bale. The girl working said it was a good choice for a dark film. I was waiting for the film to start and I was in the Dobie by myself. "Spies" by Coldplay played before the previews. The setting, the mood, the memory, everything is all just too perfect. It's paradoxically a beautifully dark memory.
