Great stuff, Chuck. Does anyone know the origin of the castle in the background? Was it built for a specific film?

Apparently it was a water tower in disguise. The picture below is dated 1914, before the studio officially opened in March 1915. According to writeups at the time, every structure on the lot was made to be useful in filming, with multiple sides to many of of them for different settings etc.
