If it is a decent quality red brick, along with a decent design, I don't see what how it would be kitsch? It would add a little more depth and contrast to the area which would be positive. Individually none of the towers in southcore are ugly, but they need to contrast with something in order to stand out. They can't really contrast with each other.
I was always impressed by the podium of Market Wharf. Something like that might work well.
