I think you meant to say they are are bookended by Taco Cabana on one end and Taco Bell on the other.

And Syndic - the plan for the boutique hotel/condos on top has changed. It's going to be all residential now with ground floor retail.

Developers are proposing that the Taco Cabana restaurant on South Lamar Boulevard and West Riverside Drive be razed to build a mid-rise apartment tower.

A site plan has been submitted to the city for review, and according to case manager Christine Barton-Holmes, some back-and-forth discussions have ensued. Current entitlements allow for 60 feet of height — or five to six stories.

Elevations that were submitted show areas where the project would be closer to nine stories and 90 feet tall.

“To increase height, we would have to go through rezoning, which is being contemplated,” Rodgers said.

The article says that the best-case scenario would have the project breaking ground in the 2nd quarter of 2013 and would take 18-20 months to complete.

So this article is nearly 3 months old. Does anyone know if the developers asked to have the property rezoned to be able to increase the height?
