Ambling University Development Group is planning an 18-story student housing project in downtown Atlanta.

The Valdosta, Ga.-based company submitted plans to the city of Atlanta earlier this month to redevelop an abandoned hotel and service station at Courtland Street and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue. The 270,000-square-foot project would include 254 residential units and 17,000 square feet of commercial space.

The property sits close to where Georgia State intends to build new law and business schools. In 2010, the university purchased about 2.4 acres at John Wesley Dobbs and Park Place, near Robert W. Woodruff Park.

The site also is within a five-minute walk of the Atlanta Streetcar route, a 2.6-mile loop that’s under construction, slated to be in service late next year

This sounds excellent. GSU is really expanding and investing in Downtown. I remember not so long ago when all GSU's buildings were concentrated mostly at Decatur and Piedmont.
