I suppose the onyx colour was chosen for "matching" the wooden panels and beams.
I agree that the onyx may look dated.
Interesting to note how the onyx panels angle in and out - like the windows on the Robson & Granville building! Is that the new trend du jour?
If they really want a retro look, those onyx panels should be lozenge-shaped.
