I was just in Niagara Falls running the 2011 Niagara Falls Marathon...anyway, second visit to the city so this time I got a chance to look at the real downtown/central city that's behind the Casino, Skylon, Ferris Wheel, Hotels...I'm no expert, but is that really a skyline of Niagara Falls, or is it more window dressing mostly consisting of entertainment and tourist venues? The actual downtown, to me, didn't look too hot...pawn shops with bars on the windows, not many people walking around on Erie Street (I took the train to and from Windsor); so not going into a lot of detail but am I correct in assuming the main industry here is tourism, low-wage jobs? Similar to Windsor, if it weren't for those casinos, we'd be in big trouble. It's evident when you look at the classifieds and see how cheap it is to live in Niagara Falls, Windsor, Thunder Bay & Winnipeg...but they seem like cities where a lot of people are there because they could never afford Vancouver, Toronto, etc...has this been the reality for a long time?
