All cities that eventually gain global stature go through a big growth spurt some time in their history. Toronto is Canada's de facto metropolis with global aspirations. It needs monumental growth like this to get to that next stage. Let's not forget that Toronto is only about the 45th-50th most populous metropolitan area in the world. It's up against gargantuan rivals like New York, Shanghai, Mumbai, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, etc.

I admit it's impressive to see a city in a developed country go through this kind of growth. I'm enjoying the ride and still holding out hope that Toronto can sustain this level of growth for long enough to put itself on the map. Toronto's getting there, but it's not there yet.

Maybe by 2030 Toronto will 'arrive'. It may actually need to grow faster to make it.
