It's an offsite facility and it is well equipped to care for, at the peak of the season, over 140 seal pups. There is a full rotation of volunteers that work non-stop in cleaning, feeding, and maintaining the pups from newborn (some) to release. To match the nutiritional value of mother's milk, we have to purchase expensive supplements to incorporate into our seal formulas as well as purchse tonnes of freshly frozen smelt and herring as they mature.
It is completely reliant on the SOS program which is mostly through coin boxes throughout the aquarium and from the sticker program at the admission gate.
So unless corporate sponsors step in (like in the past), you can say buh-bye to MMR without the aquarium and without the advocacy of the mammals at the Aquarium.

I hope people will consider the value of this program. Particularly in the event of any future oil spills along our coastline. We're going to need these resources at some point. It isn't a matter of if, but when.
