The differences between South Korea and Japan are vast - yet they successfully co-hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Which differences, specifically, between Vancouver and Seattle are so completely insurmountable as to be 'ridiculous'?
The World Cup is hosted in Multiple cities in a country. Generally, people will only go to one game per day. The schedule is also more controlled and fixed. The sheer number of events and logistics of the Olympics do not lend themselves well to multiple countries hosting them.
